  1. Week of Life #10: April 3rd – April 9th – Happy Easter!

    10 Weeks old

I went on Tuesday and got the sample and coupon and then filled my prescription.  As of today – I don’t think it’s really helping.  I’m not in as much pain as before, but I tend to think that’s because I’m not pumping as much (only every 12 hours now).  Now that it’s feeling a little better, it’s very tempting to try and get her back to breastfeeding… not sure though because I don’t want to tempt fate and get things rolling in the wrong direction again.  I’ll think it over a couple days and see how I feel 🙂

Sean has been very busy working on his car the past few weeks.  He’s getting very handy in the car department! I think it’s great 🙂  Although, it does cut into family time at night, but I know (hope!) it will only be for a few weeks while he gets things straight with the car.  I can’t complain (but I do sometimes!) because he’s so wonderful and helpful and loving and he’s just asking for an hour or two when he gets home to work on the car – it’s just a hard time because I’m trying to get dinner ready and Haley’s usually either hungry or crying… it just means we’ve been eating dinner pretty late.  Which, in the grand scheme of things isn’t a big deal!

This week I did more running around with the babe and she was very good.  We had to drop off our taxes, go to Babies-R-Us to get some sunglasses and summer hats (!), go to Publix… we’re a very busy little team.  We’re still working hard on tummy time, which she still doesn’t care for, but if I get her at the right time she’ll go for a few minutes before fussing.  She does like to lay on her back on her activity mat and look out the window at the pool, as well as look in the mirror (at the beautiful baby staring back at her!), and this week she has started swatting at the hanging toys!  Also new this week, when she’s on her back she’s started picking up her legs and swinging them back and forth – she’s getting close to rolling over! I’m not ready for it!!!  She’s been drooling a lot too and trying to put her hands and whatever else she can grasp into her mouth (although she’s not super at it yet).  She likes to sit in her bumbo chair and watch me make dinner sometimes which is fun and she just started enjoying looking at and playing with the activity bar that came on the bouncy seat (up until now, I didn’t even have it attached because she would just cry at it!).

I had the best morning on Friday.  Haley is so happy in the mornings (even though she is super gassy!).  She just smiles and laughs and flirts – it’s wonderful.  Well, she’s been sleeping until about 9 or 9:30 and I was up doing a couple chores before she got up.  I heard her in her bassinet, not fussing, just makes little cooing noises and I went in to get her.  I walked up to the bassinet and she was all smiles and just looking around the room.  I got in her line of sight and said good morning – she looked at me for about 5-10 seconds and then just burst into the biggest smile!  It was so great and made me feel so, so wonderful – it’s funny how such a little person can make you feel so incredible… and just by smiling at you!  What a start to my day 🙂

Friday night we drove up to Tallahassee and got in around 1030 pm.  We stayed up for a while talking with Sean’s parents and then dragged ourselves upstairs. The next day we had brunch at the cafe and Haley got to meet 3 more family members and 1 close family friend!  She’s such a popular girl 🙂  Afterwards, I wanted to get her picture with the Easter Bunny, so off to the mall we went!  She was perfect and didn’t even cry when the huge strange bunny held her!  What a milestone – and the beginning of years of sitting on strangers laps twice a year for her parent’s entertainment (that just doesn’t sound right!).  We then came back to the house and our good friends came over for dinner.  After, the not tired crowd went for couple hours to a low key bar and Haley, Grandma, and I hung out at the house.  Grandma took care of Haley during ‘the witching hour’ while I got to take a shower 🙂

After a good nights sleep, Sean, Haley, and I met another good friend at church.  It was Haley’s first time 🙂  And she was (can you guess!??) – perfect!  She was awake, then slept a little, then had a bottle and was awake again.  She even got a blessing from the priest which was so great.  We then met back up with Sean’s parents and went to the University Center Club for brunch with more family and friends.  Haley got to meet 3 more family members!!  She’s making the rounds! Brunch was delicious and spending time with everyone was great too.  And I know Haley enjoyed seeing (and being held by!) everyone.  After brunch we went back to the house and got our pup and then left for home.  We made a quick stop by my parents riverhouse for dinner, a bottle, and a diaper change and then it was back on the road.  What a great weekend!

I can’t believe Haley’s 10 weeks old today!  She’s getting so big.  She’s outgrown most of her newborn outfits and is on to 0-3 months now (the plain old 3 month clothes are mostly still too big).  She is really loving playing on her activity mat today 🙂  I’m so glad because it gives me just a little bit of time to at least wash bottles!  Tonight I tried the supplemental feeding system while attempting to breastfeed and it didn’t go very well.  I think she could get the hang of it, but it would take a lot of work and I don’t want to get my hopes up and then get them dashed again if it didn’t work out.  So, I think I’ll just continue to wean down the pumping and go to all formula.  I’ve gotten some really great support from friends (and family) about my decisions and struggles recently and I’m feeling better about how things have turned out.  I’ll always wish that it could have been different, but I’m ok with how it is (at least that’s how I feel today!).

Ok- more next week!!  I start work again on Saturday (Boo!), but Sean will get to have a lot of quality Haley time, so that’s nice 🙂
